A selection of new technologies from Cummins along with ePowertrain technologies from its recent Meritor acquisition will be shown to the public for the first time. One of the key zero emission products Cummins is showcasing at the IAA is its fourth generation hydrogen fuel cell engine. Designed to meet the performance, packaging and duty cycle requirements of medium and heavy-duty trucks and buses, the fuel cell technology comes in two module types: 135 kW single and 270 kW dual.
Scania in Europe and Daimler Trucks in North America have announced collaborations with Cummins to develop and integrate these next-generation fuel cell engines into demonstration vehicles. These systems use fourth generation variable pressure technology to achieve higher operating temperatures, density and power nodes, making it easier to integrate the system into vehicles. They also feature an extremely durable, high-efficiency duty cycle for a lower total cost of ownership.
